• How are your tours different from others?

The wine tours I propose are strictly private which means you will be my only guests for the day. You will not share the minivan or my services with anyone outside of your party. Of course this costs more than a group or bus tour, but here are the advantages:
    - I choose wineries with premium wines, excellent customer service, and a beautiful unique atmosphere. Wine chateaus are selected based on routes that make sense taking in to account driving time.
    - My goal is to provide you with an authentic “Bordeaux Wine Experience” where you get to visit the vineyards with the most personal and welcoming service. A wine tour is more than just driving from one winery’s tasting room to the next. I want you to get a feel for the Bordeaux wine region, its unique ways of winemaking, its culture and passionate people.
    - We will get out of the crowds. I'll keep you well away from places that cater for bus tours, making each visit a personal one to one experience.
    - I will pick you up on the doorstep of your accommodation wherever that may be.
    - I am extremely passionate about wine and the Bordeaux wine region!
    - In addition being a specialist wine guide, I am the holder of an official license as a state-registered chauffeur that guarantees you safety

  • What wineries do you visit?

Secrets de Châteaux Bordeaux specializes in visiting small, family-owned wineries. These wineries are the most accommodating for small groups and present a more authentic experience. However visits of Great Classified Growths are also on offer.

  • We like to visit very specific wineries. Is this possible?

Yes! You may customize your tour and choose any wine estate, providing we have the winery's permission to visit, and that the itinerary is logistically feasible. Keep in mind, some wine estates require appointments several weeks in advance, and I cannot guarantee their availability. If you plan on visiting more exclusive chateaus, then I must take arrangements with the chateaux in advance. Please include your desired wineries in your Tour Quote Form submission.

  • What is the best time of year to visit the Bordeaux wine region?

There isn’t a bad time to visit the Bordeaux wine region, as each season holds different attractions. However, the most popular time to visit is during harvest season. The harvest season falls between end of August to late October, when the vines are naked of fruit and turn red, gold and yellow before retiring to winter.

  • How many people are on each tour?

    2 to 6 people
The maximum is six, ensuring a personal and exclusive experience. At many wineries we have private visits and tastings. We only visit wineries that have a similar philosophy, avoiding large tour groups.

  • Is this a shared ride?

No. The vehicle is reserved only for you and your group. I generally do not pair unknown groups together as it is difficult to match preferences. I offer private wine tours.

  • How long will the tour last?

Most tours take about 7-8 hours

The tours usually start in the morning between 9 - 9.30 am and end between 5.30 - 6.30 pm

The schedules are changing slightly according to the season.

  • How many wineries should we expect to visit?

A typical wine tour includes the visit of three or four wineries sometimes combined to historical sites. It has been my experience that longer visits to fewer, quality wineries usually make for a much more pleasing day.

  • Are your tours suitable for children?

I have found from experience that the days are really adult wine-tasting days. We stand for most of our tastings. Whilst the day is interesting for adults, children can get bored. It is difficult for both parents and children to enjoy the day.

  • Do your tours include accommodation?

Accommodation is not included in the wine tours but I can arrange that too!

  • What is the best time of year to visit the Bordeaux wine region?

The harvest season falls between end of August to late October, when the vines are naked of fruit and turn red, gold and yellow before retiring to winter.

  • What clothes should I wear on the wine tours?

Casual clothing is best. Please avoid high heels! We will be going behind the scenes of working wineries, and there will be stairs to manoeuver. Sometimes we also go out into the vineyards!
A hat and sun block is recommend during the summer time, perhaps even bringing long shirt or light jacket is also a good idea as the wine cellars can feel chilly when it is hot outside.

  • From where are you able to pick us up?

If you are staying in a hotel or inn close in Bordeaux or its surroundings, I will most likely be able to pick you up and drop you off at that place. Otherwise, I’ll meet you at a pre-arranged public place that has parking.

  • What type of transport is provided ?

The mini-vans or vehicles have air conditioning and heating, meaning that you will have a pleasant trip regardless of the season.

  • How can I determine if you have a tour vehicle available on my preferred tour date?

Please fill out the Tour Quote Form for a customized tour or for any special wish. Otherwise check the calendar corresponding to each tour to see if they are still some places or seats left for your selected date

  • How do we make our reservation?

If you a have a special request or want to visit a specific wine estate, you can either fill out the form on the Book a Tour page or call us at 00 33 679 409 062. Otherwise you just need to select a tour proposed in the calendar according to your favorite day.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations within 7 days of the tour date will be charged
Cancellations within 2 days of the tour will be charged 50% of the price of the tour.
Deposits for our daily wine tours are fully refundable if you cancel no later than 3 days before the tour starts. For later cancellations the charge is 30% of the total tour price.

  • What is the price of the day- tour?

It will be 390 € for 2/3 persons

80 € for each additional person

  • What does the the price include?

    - Exclusive private transportation

    - English spoken tour and my guiding services

    - Fuel, parking fees

    - Insurance, taxes

Lunch is an additional expense, as are wine tasting fees

  • What are wine tasting fees? How much are they?

These fees are charged by wineries to compensate them for the wines they pour. These fees can vary widely from one wine estate to another. Some wineries waive the tasting fees if visitors buy a bottle. The average tasting fee is currently about 6€ to 15€ per guest.
Two to six different wines may be proposed for tasting.

  • Do we have to buy wine?

You will never be forced to buy wine but etiquette suggests that you should consider purchases. One bottle per person per location makes the chateaus happy especially the small family run estates. Wine estates are in the business to sell wine. Look for discounts, wine clubs, and specials. Always remember, wine makes the perfect gift for a special occasion, anniversary, birthday present, special dinner guests!

  • What are the options for lunch?

I can help you select a local restaurant or organize a picnic lunch in one of our partner wine estate. You even may elect to bring you own lunch and we'll help you select a suitable site to eat it.
The recommended restaurants are all carefully selected and propose local cuisine as well as fresh regional products
They propose special menus including a starter, main course and a dessert. According to the restaurant, the price will vary from 14 € to 20 € per person.

  • How do we pay for a tour?

Once you have selected your day-tour, you will pay by credit card. It will also be possible to pay in cash the day of the selected tour before departure unless you have paid 30 % of account.
For any customized tour or specific wish, please ask for a price quote.
